In view with facilitating logistics matters of battalions and establishments through the coordination of logistics units under Security Forces (Jaffna), the Forward Maintenance Area (North) was established on 18 June 1995 at the precincts of Cement Factory in Kankesanthurai under the guidance and directions of Brigadier J P A Jayawardena USP. The establishment was shifted and reestablished in Miliddy area after the conclusion of the war against terrorism. Presently, Major General GWL Mahinkanda performs duties as the Commander of Forward Maintenance Area (North).

Presently, Major General GWL Mahinkanda performs duties as the Commander of Forward Maintenance Area (North).Gamladdalage Wandhitha Lankeshwara Mahinkanda was born on 05 June 1967, is a proud product of Ananda College Colombo. After completing higher studies he enlisted to the Regular Force of Sri Lanka Army as a Cadet Officer on 16 March 1987, and followed the basic military training at Sri Lanka Military Academy. He was commissioned in the rank of 2/Lieutenant on 10 December 1988 and posted to Sri Lanka Artillery Regiment in Panagoda.
Major General Wandhitha Mahinkanda during his career span of 33 years serving in both operational and non operational areas has held many instructional, staff and command appointments in which he dedicated and committed to serve the nation with much determination.
Being an officer of Sri Lanka Artillery regiment, he has attended and followed a number of local and foreign courses that motivated him to achieve the heights of his military career. He was awarded with several services medals and was promoted to the rank of Major General on 02 August 2021.
Major General Wandhitha Mahinkanda assumed duties as the Commander, Forward Maintenance Area (North) on 05 October 2020. He is married and is a proud father of three children.
