Northern Speed Rally - 2019


For the first time in the history Security Force Jaffna in collaboration with Sri Lanka Motor Racing Association and Jaffna Motor Sports Club organized the Northern Speed Rally - 2019 in Jaffna Peninsula from 22 March to 24 March 2019. Upon a conception of Commander Security Force - Jaffna, Major General Dharshana Hettiarrachchi, the Sri Lanka Motor Racing Association in conjunction with Sri Lanka Army Motor Sports Committee conducted the motor rally in Jaffna in view of introducing motor sports to the youth in Northern Province and to motivate their hidden talents.

The launching ceremony was conducted on 22 March at the Jaffna Municipal Grounds with the presence of Mr. Manuel Arnold, the Mayor of Jaffna and lots of military and civil invitees, where a large gathering was present to witness the special road show of popular motor sportsmen in Sri Lanka with their vehicles. A number of 13 prominent motor car drivers and 10 motor cycle riders comprising both Army and Police Special Task Force sportsmen, competed at the first stage conducted on the off-road track in Wettalakeni area on 23 March. Further, a donation programme was conducted simultaneously in the same evening to donate stationery items and school bags to 150 deserving students from low-income families in the area. The donation programme was organized by the 55 Division with the main contribution of members of the Sri Lanka Motor Racing Association.

At the end of the second stage on 24 March, the drivers and riders paraded towards the Jaffna Municipal Grounds to take part at the colourful awarding ceremony followed by a superb road show that attracted the residents in Jaffna area. The culmination programme was conducted with the presence of Major General Dharshana Hettiarrachchi, Commander Security Force - Jaffna and the Chairman of Sri Lanka Army Motor Sports Committee, Mr. Emmanuel Arnold Mayor of Jaffna, Commanders of 51, 52 and 55 Divisions, Senior Army Officers, Government Officials, the President of Sri Lanka Motor Racing Association Mr. Izwan Ahmad, the President of Jaffna Motor Sports Club Mr. Paramesh and members of both motor sports clubs. A considerable number of military personnel, police personnel and residents were present to witness the ceremony.
