along with Officials of the Disaster Management Centre of Urban
Council - Chavakachcheri and Divisional Secretariat Office - Thannamarachchi,
assisted civilians of Kovilkudiirippu on 21st November 2018 in
order to speed up the drainage process of the floods due to heavy
rains in the area.
Initial investigations revealed that the lack of a proper drainage
system has caused the floods within the village. Following the
investigations, on instructions of the Technical Officers of the
Divisional Secretariat Office, Army troops constructed a drainage
system along with 6 culverts using Backhoe loaders and tractors.
Director of the Disaster Management Centre at the Urban Council
- Chavakachcheri, Commander 523 Brigade, and the Divisional Secretariat
provided the much needed guidance to expedite the process which
provided relief for 23 families in the area. Army Troops of 523
Brigade, the 12th Battalion of the Gamunu Watch and 4th Vijayabahu
Infantry Regiment provided the much needed manpower.
