Initiating
another phase of resettlement programme in Jaffna Peninsula, 683
acres of land was handed over to 964 families (3309 members) by
the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake
at a ceremony held at Mailadi on 13 April 2018.
Under the guidance of the Commander, Security Force - Jaffna,
Major General Darshana Hettiarrachchi, lands belong to 4 GS Divisions
in DS Division - Theleppalai were handed over to civilians who
were in IDP camps and their relations' houses.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Commander of the Army highlighted
"This is your Army. This is the Army of the country. Our
responsibility is to ensure look after wellbeing of all human
being in this island whether in the South or North, whether Sinhala,
Muslim, Tamil, Buddhist, Christians, Islamic or any other religious"
Further he said that "Kankesanthurai to Point Pedro road
can be used between 0600 hr to1900 hr for civilian for their own
transport".
District Secretary (Jaffna), Additional Secretary (Land), Divisional
Secretary (Theleppalai), beneficiaries, villagers, number of Senior
Army Officers and Army personnel also attended the ceremony.
