Distribution of Sewing Machines to Low Income Families in Jaffna Area

A programme to donate sewing machines to selected low income families in Jaffna area held at the Security Forces Headquarters Auditorium on 28 March 2018.

On the request of the Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna, Major General Dharshana Hettirrachchi, the project was initiated with the financial support of Mr. Mohan Shankar and Mrs. Vadani Shankar. The event was coordinated and organized by the 7 Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps.

During the event, 15 rehabilitated women ex-combatants were donated with brand new sewing machines to use in self employment activities to uplift their living standards.

Speaking at the event the Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna highlighted the importance of restoring ethnic and religious harmony and steps taken by the military forces in Jaffna area to ensure the same. He also spoke about the efforts by military forces to support Tamil community in the peninsula to include ex-combatants to uplift their living standards and assistance towards that. Mr. Shankar speaking at the event said that he is very happy to be a part of this noble endeavor and thanked military forces for their contributions to the Tamil community.

The Commander, Security Force - Jaffna, Mr. Mohan Shankar, Mrs. Vadini Shankar, families of beneficiaries, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks attended the event.
