Physical Agility and Combat Efficiency System (PACES) Competition in Jaffna

Physical Agility and Combat Efficiency System, generally referred as PACES is an initiative to improve the physical standards of military personnel which help them in enhancing their strength, ability and coordination between the mind and the body. As conceptualized by the Commander, Security Force - Jaffna, Major General Dharshana Hettiarrachchi, a PACES Competition was introduced in Jaffna Peninsula with the objective of improving physical standards of Officers / Soldiers, that are so essential for future multi-dimensional battlefield environments.

With the guidance of the Commander, Security Force - Jaffna, the event was organized by the General Staff Officer I (Operation and Training), Lieutenant Colonel Nishantha Muthumala under the supervision of Major General Roshan Senevirathna, the General Officer Commanding, 51 Division in coordination with Colonel Senaka Kasthurimudali, the Brigade Commander, 515 Brigade.

42 competing teams from different regiments in Jaffna area participated in the selections held from 26 February to 6 March 2018, in order to be selected as the best out of the best, both for teams and individuals.5 Sri Lanka Army Service Corps placed the overall best PACES team whilst 11 Sri Lanka Light Infantry and 7 (V) Gajaba Regiment secured second and third places respectively.

S/578365 Corporal Haputhantri PPD from 5 Sri Lanka Army Service Corps placed the fittest of the fits and S/828421 Corporal Ajith Kumara DMJ from 4 Mechanized Infantry Regiment placed the second. The third place was secured by S/D100848 Private Lakmal WD from 2 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry. S/578365 Corporal Haputhantri PPD managed to complete 3.2 km run in 11 Min 24 Sec, do 34 pushup, 972 sit-ups, 443 push-ups and completed CET in 69 Sec to become the fittest among all.

Major General Dharshana Hettiarrachchi, the Commander, Security Force - Jaffna who graced the closing ceremony as the Chief Guest, which held at Mailaddy Firing Range on 7 March 2018 awarded the trophies and merit certificates for winning teams and individuals. General Officer Commanders, Brigade Commanders, Senior Officers and number of Army Personnel attended the closing ceremony.
