Army Initiated a Special Project to Conserve the Coastal Belt of Jaffna Peninsula

Army troops deployed in Jaffna initiated a special project on 21 October 2017 to conserve the coastal belt of Jaffna peninsula by planting coconut seedlings along the coastal belt from Kankesanthurai to Vettalakerni / Chalei area.

The project was launched by the Army in collaboration with the Coast Conservation Department and Lions 306 B2.

A ceremony was held at Myladdi Fishing Harbour area in p.m. hours on 21 October 2017 to initiate the project. Major General Dharshana Hettiarrachchi, the Security Forces Commander of Jaffna, Major General Mervyn Perera, the General Officer Commanding 51 Division, Mrs. Shyama de Silva, Governor - Lions 306 B2, Mr. S. Muralidaran, the Additional GA - Jaffna and the Divisional Secretary - Thelippalai were present at the event with many Army Officers and Other Rankers along with the members of Lions 306 B2. The Brigade Commander of 515 Brigade organized the event and Mrs. Shyama de Silva, Governor - Lions 306 B2 highly commended the initiative taken by the Army to assist a national project which will have a huge impact to conserve the coastal areas.
