A
special ceremony was held on Tuesday (15) at Palaly to commemorate
IPKF soldiers who laid their lives for the sake of territorial
integrity of their friendly neighboring country during Operation
Pawan in 1987. Consul General of India in Jaffna Mr. Shri A. Natarajan
and Security Force Headquarters Jaffna, Brigadier Admin and Quartering,
Brigadier A D Alwatta placed wreaths of flowers at the monument
erected at Palaly in honour of the fallen IPKF war heroes.
Operation Pawan was conducted against the LTTE by the 10th Para
Commandos and a section of 13th Sikh Light Infantry. However,
the IPKF soldiers were shot dead by the LTTE, midway their landing
during a heliborne assault in the midnight of 12 October 1987.
Later, the Palaly IPKF monument was built in memory of those fallen
war heroes.
