Northern Province War Heroes Commemoration Day at Palaly

In remembrance of fallen war heroes of the Three Forces and the Police, a ceremony was organized by the Northern Governor's Office and Ranaviru Seva Authority in coordination with Headquarters Security Force (Jaffna) on 08th May 2017 at Palaly. Religious dignitaries of Buddhist, Hindu, Islamic and Christian religions attended the event that was held at the War Heroes Monument at Palaly. A considerable number of invitees representing the key government appointments in the area, military and Police personnel serving in the Northern Province also participated in the commemoration ceremony to pay tribute to the fallen heroes.

After the arrival of the Chief Guest of the dayís event Mr. Reginald Cooray, Hon. Governor Northern Province, the formal ceremony started with the National Anthem. Chief Secretary Northern Provincial Council Mr. A. Pathinathanís welcome speech was followed by a two-minute silence to honour the national heroes who sacrificed their lives to safeguard the territorial integrity of the motherland. The religious performances were conducted by Buddhist, Hindu, Christian and Islamic priests.

Mr. Reginald Cooray, Hon. Governor Northern Province, and Dr. D K Sri Jayawardhana, Director General, Ranaviru Seva Authority addressed the gathering during the event. Thereafter, Governor of Northern Province and Director General Ranaviru Seva Authority laid floral tributes to the monument. Subsequently, Mr. A. Pathinathan, Chief Secretary Northern Provincial Council, Mr. N. Vethanayakan, District Secretary Jaffna, Mr. Sundaram Arumanayahamm, District Secretary Kilinochchi, Mrs. Rupawathi Ketheeswaram, District Secretary Mullaituve, Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana, Commander Security Force (Kilinochchi), Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Commander Security Force (Jaffna), and few other senior service and Police Officers paid floral tributes to the monument.

Vote of thanks was delivered by District Secretary Jaffna Mr. N. Vethanayakan.
