[2017-04-30 17:42:05]

A Sinhala and Hindu New Year Festival which symbolized the cultural unity between the two communities was organized by the Forward Maintenance Area (North) - FMA (N) on April 28th at 'Polsewana' playground on the directives of Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Commander Security Force, Jaffna. Brigadier Sanath Perera, Commander FMA (N), had given initiative to arrange a range of traditional games which are popular in the North and the South especially during this festive season.

This was specially organized for male and female soldiers who stayed away from their homes on official commitment during the festival period. The soldiers of Security Force, Jaffna enthusiastically took part in many events and exhibited their unity. They enjoyed a fun filled event as they strengthened their friendship and social contact as well. Valuable prizes were given to winners and participants. Brigades and Battalions serving under the SF (J) extended their support in organizing the festival.

The festivities culminated with an evening of selecting SF (J) Awurudu Kumara/Kumariya and a musical show staged by Sri Lanka Military Police Musical Group at 'Thalsewana' playground. Major General Aruna Wanniarachchi, General Officer Commanding 52 Division, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Senior military officers, officers and soldiers participated in the event. Army Western and Cultural Dancing Groups made the event more colourful and gave the audience more entertainment.
